1. Concepts
What the Communications tab configures
Settings > Communications configures how Zenskar transports outgoing email, not what gets sent or how it looks. Content and templates are configured separately, under the Communications module.Mailer type
An organization sends system email either through Zenskar’s own email service, or through a custom SMTP server. Switching to SMTP requires providing full server details before the setting can be saved.Whitelisted emails, non-production organizations only
Non-production organizations additionally see a Whitelisted Emails section, a safety mechanism that restricts outgoing mail so a test or sandbox organization does not accidentally email real recipients. Production organizations do not see this section at all.Mailer type and email address are organization-wide settings, not scoped to a specific business entity.
2. How-to guides
View or change the mailer type
- Go to Settings > Communications.
- Under Mailer Settings, choose Type: Zenskar Email Service or SMTP.
- If SMTP is selected, fill in Name, SMTP Hostname, Port, Username, and Password. All five are required.
- Save.
Restrict outgoing email to specific addresses (non-production only)
- Go to Settings > Communications. This section only appears for non-production organizations.
- Under Whitelisted Emails, use Add Email Address to add a pattern, for example a full address, a domain with a wildcard such as
*@domain.com, or*for everything. - Remove a pattern using its delete action.
- Save.
Troubleshooting
- Save is disabled: for SMTP, all five fields (Name, SMTP Hostname, Port, Username, Password) must be filled in before the setting can be saved.
- This tab shows an unauthorized message: the signed-in user does not have permission to view or change communication settings.
- Whitelisted Emails section is missing: this section only appears for non-production organizations.
