1. Concepts
What Segments does
Communications > Segments manages reusable customer filter definitions, used to target Email Alerts and Configurations at specific groups of customers instead of every customer. How a segment is built
A segment is a set of filter conditions. Each condition picks an entity (Customer, Invoice, Payment Method, or Monitor), a field on that entity, an operator, and a value. Multiple conditions can be added, on the same entity or across different entities. Each additional condition narrows the segment further.Where segments are used
Segments are not consumed on this page. Two other Communications tabs use them:- Email Alerts uses a segment to target the Invoice Generation, Invoice Approval, and Invoice Due (Invoice Reminders) alerts. See Email alerts.
- Configurations uses a segment to target a campaign, and shows a preview of the customers a segment currently resolves to. See Configurations.
Editing and deleting a segment
A segment’s name and filters can be changed at any time after creation. There is no option to delete a segment.2. How-to guides
Create a segment
- Go to Communications > Segments, and click Create New Segment.
- Enter a Segment Name.
- Click Add New Filter, and choose an entity (Customer, Invoice, Payment Method, or Monitor), a field, an operator, and a value.
- Repeat to add more filters. Each filter narrows the segment further.
- Save the segment.
Edit a segment
- Go to Communications > Segments.
- Open the segment to change, either by clicking its row or using the row’s actions menu.
- Update the Segment Name or its filters.
- Save.
Troubleshooting
- There is no delete option for a segment: segments cannot currently be deleted. If a segment is no longer needed, remove its filters, or stop referencing it from Email Alerts and Configurations instead.
- A Monitor filter only offers Greater Than or Less Than: Monitor filters do not support an Equals comparison. Use Greater Than or Less Than to express the condition.
