Permissions

Action	Required permission in the roles UI

The default Owner role has every permission. The default User role has read permissions only. A custom role can grant Can Update Organisation Config. The dashboard shows the controls to users without Can Update Organisation Config. Zenskar rejects their changes.

Tax Categories tab

Location: Settings > Tax Configuration > Tax Categories.

List of tax categories

Column	Description
Tax Category Name	The name of the tax category.
Avalara Tax Code	The Avalara tax code of the tax category. Appears only when Avalara AvaTax is connected to a business entity.
Anrok Tax Code	The Anrok tax code of the tax category. Appears only when Anrok is connected to a business entity.

Add Tax Category and Edit Tax Category panels

Field	Required	Description
Tax Category Name	Yes	Up to 255 characters. Unique within your organization.
Avalara Tax Code	No	Text, up to 25 characters. Zenskar does not check the code against the Avalara catalog. Appears only when Avalara AvaTax is connected to a business entity.
Anrok Tax Code	No	A code from the catalog of the connected Anrok accounts. Appears only when Anrok is connected to a business entity.

When no third-party tax engine is connected, the panel shows Connect tax tools instead of the code fields.

Entities tab

Location: Settings > Tax Configuration > Entities.

Card field	Description
Countries Serving	The number of served countries that have a currency turned on. Shows “No countries” when there are none.
Tax Tools	The tax engines that the business entity uses for its served countries.
Zenskar Tax Rates	The number of tax rates. Shows “N countries need rates” when the business entity uses the Zenskar tax engine for a served country that has no tax rate. Empty when the business entity uses the Zenskar tax engine for none of its served countries.

Configure opens the Countries Serving and Tax Rates tabs of the business entity.

Countries Serving tab

Location: Settings > Tax Configuration > Entities > Configure > Countries Serving.

Add Country and Edit Country panels

Field	Required	Description
Select Country	Yes	The list excludes countries that the business entity already serves. You cannot change the country after you add it.
Currencies	Yes	One or more currencies. In Edit Country, click a currency to turn it on or off. At least one currency must stay on.
Add another currency	No	Edit Country only. Adds a currency to the served country.
Tax Engine	Yes	Zenskar, or the third-party tax engine connected to the business entity. Applies to every currency that is on. A disconnected engine appears as “(not connected)”.

Row menu: Edit, Remove. Remove takes effect immediately, without a confirmation.

Tax Rates tab

Location: Settings > Tax Configuration > Entities > Configure > Tax Rates.

Add Tax Rate panel

Field	Required	Description
Tax Category	Yes	The tax category of the tax rate. Locked when you open the panel with + Tax Rate next to a tax category.
Country	Yes	A served country of the business entity.
State	No	Up to 10 characters. Appears after you click Add State or Add ZIP Code.
City	No	Up to 100 characters. Requires State. Appears after you click Add City or Add ZIP Code.
ZIP Code Start and ZIP Code End	No	Up to 20 characters each. Require State and City. Both codes must have the same length. The start code must be less than or equal to the end code.
Effective From	Yes	The start date of the rate change. Rate changes of a tax rate cannot share a start date.
Tax Name	Yes	Up to 50 characters. Unique within the rate change. Displayed on invoices.
Tax Percentage	Yes	0 to 100, with up to two decimal places.

Add Another Component adds a tax component to the rate change. Schedule Rate Change adds a later rate change to the tax rate.

Tax Rate Details panel

Opens from the number of rate changes in the tax rates list. Read-only.

Field	Description
Jurisdiction	The country, state, city, and ZIP-code range of the tax rate.
Effective From	The start date of the rate change.
Effective To	The end date of the rate change. Empty for the last rate change.
Components	The tax components of the rate change.

Rate-change statuses

Status	Meaning
Active	The rate change has started, has not ended, and is the latest rate change of the tax rate to start.
Scheduled	The start date of the rate change is in the future.
Expired	The rate change has ended, or a later rate change has replaced it.

Troubleshooting

Problem	Cause	Solution
The tax category panel shows Connect tax tools instead of a code field.	No third-party tax engine is connected to a business entity.	Connect the third-party tax engine. For steps, see Avalara AvaTax or Anrok.
The Tax Engine list does not show a third-party tax engine.	The third-party tax engine is not connected to this business entity.	Connect the third-party tax engine to this business entity.
A served country shows its tax engine as “(not connected)”.	The third-party tax engine was disconnected from the business entity.	Reconnect the engine, or change the tax engine for the served country.
Add Tax Rate is unavailable.	The business entity has no served country.	Add a served country.
A country is missing from the Country list in Add Tax Rate.	The country is not a served country of the business entity.	Add a served country.
The business entity card shows “N countries need rates”.	The business entity uses the Zenskar tax engine for a served country that has no tax rate.	Add a tax rate for that country.
A rate change fails to save with an overlap error.	Another rate change for the same tax category and jurisdiction overlaps or shares a day with it.	Start the new rate change on the day after the other one ends. If the other one has no end date, the dashboard cannot add a later rate change.
