This is a task-oriented document covering the steps required to add a product. For the meaning and rationale behind these fields, see product concepts and the product reference. To alter a product after it has been created, including adding presets, marking a default, changing status, or deleting a product, see product management.

Add a product

Adding a product has three phases. All three are required before the product can be saved.

Phase 1: define the product

  1. From the product catalog, click Add a product.
  2. Enter a Name.
  3. Optionally, select a Tax category.
  4. Optionally, click Add description.
  5. Choose a Product type: point in time or period of time.
  6. Choose a Subtype. See type and subtype compatibility.
  7. Optionally, expand Additional info to set Unit (singular), Unit (plural), and SKU.
  8. Click Next.
Product type cannot be changed once a pricing preset is attached, and phase 2 attaches one immediately. Confirm the type before continuing.

Phase 2: define a pricing preset

  1. Choose a Pricing model: per unit, volume, or tiered.
  2. Choose the Currency.
  3. Enter the price per unit (or the relevant tier/volume pricing).
  4. Choose the Tax behavior: tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive.

Phase 3: define how usage is tracked

  1. Decide whether Usage is metered. If checked, select a Meter.
  2. If metered, choose a Quantity strategy: on demand or recurring. See quantity source vs. quantity type.
  3. If recurring, choose Partial period handling: prorate or charge full.
  4. Click Save.
