Before you start
You will need a customer already set up in Zenskar, and at least one product with pricing already in your catalog.Step 1: Start a new contract
- Open Contracts and start a new contract.
- Choose the customer.
- Set a start date, and an end date. Zenskar’s contract form currently requires an end date.
Step 2: Add a product
- Click Add Products and choose a product from your catalog.
- Select the pricing you want to apply.
Step 3: Configure the line item
Open the line item and set up:- Quantity mode. Choose whether the product is on demand or recurring, and whether its quantity is fixed or metered. This choice shapes how the line item bills, so it is worth getting right before moving on.
- Pricing. Use catalog pricing to apply one of the product’s existing prices.
- Anchor dates, if you want this line item’s billing cycle to align to a fixed date, like the last day of the month, instead of the line item’s own start date.
- Discounts and commitments, if the deal calls for them.
Step 4: Preview the invoices
Turn on Invoice Preview to see what the contract would generate. This works even before you have saved anything, so you can test different configurations before committing.Step 5: Save and publish
Click Save Draft to save your work without billing starting yet, or Publish to move the contract straight to active. Publishing starts generating the contract’s first invoice, which may take a moment to appear. What’s next
- To change a quantity after the contract is live, see how to manage a contract.
- To understand why invoices stay in sync automatically, and what happens when a retroactive change affects an already-approved invoice, see contract: concepts and invoice corrections: concepts.
