Line item: pricing

This page explains the pricing of a line item and how it changes during the line-item duration.

Map of concepts

The pricing of a line item uses the following modules:

Pricing versions: changes to the pricing

A pricing version is the version of the pricing of a line item. Each pricing version uses one pricing preset of the product. A new line item starts with one pricing version, which covers the whole line-item duration.

Adding and removing pricing versions

A new pricing version imports a pricing preset from the catalog. The catalog shows only the pricing presets in the currency of the contract. Zenskar places a new pricing version at the end of the line item. If the last pricing version ends before the line item, the new pricing version fills the gap. Otherwise, Zenskar splits the last pricing version at the start of a month near its middle. The dates of each pricing version can then change. When a pricing version is deleted, the neighboring pricing version extends over its dates. A line item always keeps at least one pricing version.

The UI describes this option as “Start fresh with a new version based on current pricing”.

Price overrides

A price override is a change that a line item makes to the amounts or the pricing period of its pricing preset. The pricing preset itself does not change. A pricing version can override, for example, the price per unit, the tier prices, or the pricing period. The line item marks each override, shows the catalog default, and can reset the override to the catalog default. Because the pricing preset does not change, other contracts that use it are not affected.
