# Set up the per-unit pricing model

Set a fixed amount for each unit. For how the per-unit pricing model calculates an amount, see [Per-unit pricing model](/docs/20260301/pricing-models/concepts/per-unit).

## Prerequisites

* A role with the **Can Read Product**, **Can Read Product Pricing**, and **Can Create Product Pricing** permissions. For details, see [Permissions](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/reference/products#permissions).
* The pricing-preset panel is open, with **Per Unit** selected in **Pricing Model**. For steps, see [Create a product](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/how-to-guides/products#create-a-product) or [Add a pricing preset](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/how-to-guides/pricing-presets#add-a-pricing-preset).

## Set the amount and the pricing period

1. In **Price per unit**, enter the amount for one unit, such as `20`. The amount must be 0 or greater.
2. If the product uses the period-of-time product type, set the pricing period in **Pricing Period**:
   * Select **Monthly**, **Quarterly**, **Semi-Annual**, or **Annual**.
   * Or select **Custom**, enter a number in **Every**, and select **Day**, **Month**, or **Year** in **Cadence**.

**Pricing Period** appears only for products that use the period-of-time product type. **Monthly** is the default.
