# Metered usage

## Meter usage for a pricing preset

Measure the quantity of a [pricing preset](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/glossary#pricing-preset) with a [billable metric](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/glossary#billable-metric). ### Prerequisites

* The pricing-preset panel is open. For steps, see [Create a product](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/how-to-guides/products#create-a-product) or [Add a pricing preset](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/how-to-guides/pricing-presets#add-a-pricing-preset).
* The billable metric exists. To create one, see [Billable metrics](/docs/20260301/product-modules/usage/concepts/billable-metrics).

### Set up metered usage

1. Select **Usage is metered**.
2. In **Meter**, search for the billable metric, and select it.
3. In **Quantity Strategy**, select the [quantity strategy](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/glossary#quantity-strategy):
   * **On Demand**: each measured use counts as a separate consumption. This is the default.
   * **Recurring**: the measured quantity stays in place until it changes.
4. If you selected **Recurring**, select the [partial-period handling](/docs/20260301/product-modules/products/glossary#partial-period-handling) in **Partial Period Handling**:
   * **Prorate**: Zenskar charges only for the part of the period that the quantity was in place. This is the default.
   * **Charge Full**: Zenskar charges the full amount for the period.

A billable metric is required while **Usage is metered** is selected. To stop metering usage before you save, clear **Usage is metered**. Zenskar then clears **Meter**, **Quantity Strategy**, and **Partial Period Handling**.
