This walkthrough connects Stripe as a payment gateway, then records a payment against an invoice, so you can see both the automatic and manual sides of collecting payments in Zenskar.

Before you start

You’ll need a Stripe account to connect a gateway, and at least one approved invoice with an amount due to record a payment against.

Step 1: Connect Stripe

  1. Go to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Click the Stripe tile.
  3. Follow the connection flow to authorize Zenskar against your Stripe account.
Once connected, Zenskar can charge a customer’s saved Stripe payment method automatically when their invoice is due.

Step 2: Choose which payment methods you’ll accept at checkout

  1. Go to Settings → Payment.
  2. Under Available Payment Methods, choose which methods customers can pay with, cards, US bank account, or both.

Step 3: Record a manual payment

Not every payment comes through a gateway. Now record one by hand, the way you would for a wire transfer or a cheque.
  1. Go to Payments and click + Add New Payment.
  2. Choose Payment as the type.
  3. Choose the payment method, for example Bank Transfer.
  4. Enter the amount received, the currency, and the date.
  5. Under invoices, select the customer’s invoice and enter how much of the amount received applies to it.
  6. Save.

Step 4: Check the result

  1. Open the invoice you applied the payment to. If the full amount due was covered, it’s now marked paid. If only part of it was covered, it’s marked partially paid.
  2. Open Payments again and find the payment you just added, it now appears in your payments list, and its amount has posted to your accounts receivable.
